Live automatic database updates interrupts & interferes with my online work & slows down my computer. Very annoying. Until a recent update, I was able to set the update setting to “manual” but now that setting is ignored. What happened? How can I get the program to keep the manual setting? Do I have to go back to an older program version in order to accomplish that?? >:(
I don’t know what your computer specs are, but the auto virus definitions updates shouldn’t slow your computer as they are generally measured in the KBs or 1MB. Are you on dial-up ?
If you have the streaming updates enabled then the Auto virus definitions updates has to be enabled - that said if you switch the virus definitions updates to manual that should disable streaming updates.
What is your operating system and are you running as a limited user (not admin) account ?
I am sill using windows XP & have been able to manage with that + keeping my computer ‘clean’. I prefer to set my Avast database updates to ‘manual’, then I just update in the morning after I log in. Why won’t Avast “keep” my manual setting? It did until last week. Actually, it did until I was ‘forced’ to re-register after annoying popups wouldn’t stop.
me again, sorry… I just figured out how to get Avast to keep the manual update setting. They don’t make it easy. This time I had to change the setting under “update” to “manual” then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the settings page & click on OK…
Any time you make changes to your settings in Avast you need to save them that’s what the OK is for.
By doing your updates manually, you actually deny yourself the added increase in protection by getting the latest protection
for the newest discovered viruses as soon as that protection is available. That’s the idea behind streaming updates.
Your computer, your choice.
Thanks Bob. I knew about the OK to accept the change & looked for it, but this time it was sooooooo far down the page. I figure once/day update is good enough for the little bit I do on my computer ;o)
