How to protect your e-mail address book from spreading a worm.

This doesn’t work. :-[
See here

Nice trick

But does a Worm really stop spreading when the first mail can’t be delivered?

This doesn’t so much protect your email address book as make you aware that it has been got at.

There is nothing there to stop it uploading the addresses to another location, etc.

This just seems to be a variation on another urban myth to block your address book using ~ (or some such character that would appear first in the address book) as the first in your address book.

I somehow doubt that it would stop because it is undeliverable, that would imply that it waited to see an email was deliverable before sending others. Simply not the case, they send out multiples of emails at the same time (why avast heuristics {depends on internet mail being on High} detects multiple identical emails in a period of time)

This is a false urban legend that dates back at least to 2001. See the link below for more information.

Yes, that’s the one ;D

Is it really that long ago ;D

Thanks Charley,
I missed that one. :-[

You’re welcome, Bob.

The reason I know this one so well is that at least once a year someone sends me an email with that false information. I send the sender to the same link I posted above.

It seems some of those types of emails never die. ::slight_smile:
