Feel stupid for having to ask this, but how do i shutdown avast 4.8? I am trying to shut down all the little background processes that it has started and am unable to do so. I can turn them off in the program itself, but they remain in the background eating memory, and avast remains in the taskbar. How might i go about shutting down the program completely?
You get avast … you get the way avast works … if you do not like that then it may be better for you to select another product.
You can select, by right clicking the avast icon in the systray, “Stop on Access Protection”. This will stop all of the providers you have selected from running.
avast does not offer (like it or not) an option that says “remove every vestige of avast from memory and active use” and, for reasons we can discuss further if you wish, I do not believe it should do so given the function it performs for the vast majority of its many millions of users.
No need to get defensive about it, I was simply asking if there was a way because I am trying to diagnose a problem on my system and this is the only application that I have that forces un-killable processes on my machine.
It was not defensive in the slightest … it was realistic completely. I do not belong to avast; I am just a user of avast and I support others who use avast also.
If you really want to “kill” avast processes then you must first disable the new avast self-protection feature by avast >Program Settings > Troubleshooting > Check the “Disable avast self defense module”
Now is that non-defensive enough?
and BTW … I stand by…

In the unlikely event you do wish to discuss this let me know.
