HOW To Remove SafePrice and Online Security

When I opened Firefox, another page opened offering to install ‘SafePrice.’

I did ‘not’ place a checkmark beside the option to ‘install’ it but I did click ‘Continue.’

When I checked the ‘Add-On Manager,’ it was listed, along with ‘Online Security’ as disabled.

Is this automatically installed but disabled by default when Avast updated itself, is it installed but disabled when ‘Continue’ is clicked (even though a checkmark was not placed beside ‘Install’), or is it only installed and ‘enabled’ if a checkmark is placed beside ‘Install?’

There is no option in ‘Add/Remove Program-Change’ to remove either of these completely.

You can enabled/disable safe price in the browsers add-on section.
Alternatively you can remove the safeprice folder.

When I opened Firefox on Wed, another page opened offering to install ‘SafePrice.’ I did NOT check the box to install it but I did click ‘Continue’ and the webpage closed.

I looked at the Firefox Extension List and 'SafePrice and ‘Online Security’ are listed as ‘Disabled.’

  1. I want to remove the ‘SafePrice’ folder AND its listing in the Extension list-Win 7 x86 will not allow me to delete the ‘SafePrice’ folder and it is NOT listed under ‘Add/Remove Programs.’

b) Why aren’t SafePrice and Online Security listed in Opera’s Extension list/Plug-In list? Is it because they are only listed in the default browser?

Disabling it does not remove the extension, but the directions are here.

Your response ‘still’ does not explain:

  1. WHY ‘SafePrice’ was installed ‘in the first place’ since the box to install it was not checked?

  2. WHY can’t the ‘SafePrice’ folder be deleted in Win 7 x86 and WHY it is NOT listed under ‘Add/Remove Programs.’

b) Why are SafePrice and Online Security listed in FIREFOX but not OPERA’S Extension list/Plug-In list?

The safeprice folder can be deleted.

You can download the AOS extension for Opera at: https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/avast-online-security/?display=en
Disable it through Opera:

So today Avast offered to install thier SafePrice malware for me (i.e. malware: any software I do not want).

I did NOT check the box to give approval, but they installed it in my Firefox browser anyhow, but set to disabled. That’s pretty cheeky for a security company.

So I go to uninstall it. Cannot be done in the normal manner. No button exists in the browser Add Ins area to uninstall. They’ve somehow cleverly made it impossible for me to delete the SafePrice folder from my own computer. And there is no way to uninstall it from Add/Remove software.

This is the ultimate example of malware, which Avast is supposed to be protecting me from. Software which installs itself without my permission and which has no way to uninstall it. I’m now half expecting a ransom note from Avast demanding money to uninstall it.

This is NOT a good way to run a security company IMHO. I am not amused.

Avast 2016: Manage program components in Avast Antivirus setup configuration >> https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB96#artTitle

There was no reference anywhere in the normal Avast interface to this. Consequently I took the only obvious route and uninstalled Avast altogether.

I simply cannot abide security software which installs malware on my computer, explicitly without my permission.

I just checked my Firefox additions.
Avast AOS and SafePrice are the only extensions that can’t be removed only disabled. ???
How do you remove them ??? ???

You have to remove the Browser Protection module in avast.
The usual Control Panel > Programs and Features > Avast Antivirus > Change - From the new screen select the > Modify button - then uncheck the Browser Protection module.

You and I can both agree that this is too much work for the average user. Since all other extensions have the option to remove them I’m sure that option can also be made available by Avast.

What I agree on is that it confuses the hell out of users - the problem is it is buried within obscurity - I hate the fact that the original AOS was called Browser Protection, who would ever think that this related to browser add-on/s.

The true browser protection is the Web Shield, I feel this so called Browser Protection needs to be renamed to give clarity to what the hell it is - Browser add-ons - it should also have a check box for both add-ons so one, SafePrice can be removed if you don’t want that but do want the AOS add-on.

Since you can remove it from Chrome, you should also be able to remove it from Firefox.

The removal really isn’t the problem, the obscurity is the issue as you have found. Who knows exactly what the Browser Protection is, when they are trying to get rid of the SafePrice browser add-on.

Previously you could get rid of the SafePrice by unchecking the SafePrice option in the browsers AOS settings. That option is no longer there in the AOS settings.

and the real PITA is having to deal with this Avast spamware being a paid user… i can’t even uninstalling them… so Kaspersky Labs won gold medal last year…mmmm time to start considering adopting it… wait i just renewed my Avast sub last January for another 2 years…sigh… :o

Remember to install trail version first …

Why even have these jun items added to Avast? It hijacks your browsers. Don’t you guys realize this, or is ignorance bliss?

It’s a custom built browser designed to be used when doing your shopping and banking. How does it hijack your browser ???
Unless you opt to make this your default browser, nothing changes.
Sorry, wrong topic. (SafeZone Browser)
I don’t use SafePrice. I happen to like Honey ( https://www.joinhoney.com/insider/stores )
