How can I set Avast to check my hotmail account?
oh I meant that how to check the e-mails?
Hotmail is not a pop3/smtp server email… so avast! does not scans it directly.
If you set Standard Shield sensitivity to HIGH, it will scans the inbound mail of Hotmail.
Other emails could be scanned by the specific provider.
Which is your Windows?
Which email program do you use?

I am using XP (sp2)
I use hotmail for most of times but yahoo too…

The email is transparently (directly) scanned by avast! into XP. You don’t have to set anything different. Just install avast and it’s there.
But both Hotmail and Yahoo do not use pop3/smtp protocols… 
Hotmail is scanned by McAfee if I’m not wrong. Perhaps yahoo is scanned too, so you don’t have to worry that much.
There are some applications to download Hotmail and Yahoo through pop protocol, like other emails.
But, if I’m not wrong, both changed their behavior recently and I don’t know if these applications work anymore.
Something like YahooPops, HotmailPops, FreePop … were one of them.

Hotmail is now using Trendmicro as it’s scanner. Yahoo uses Symantec, but I think avast! Internet mail provider still scan yahoo accounts.
