How to setup a 2nd POP server?
Have looked thur the help section on manuallly setting up the POP/SMTP and have most of my account set up but I am having problems with one of them.
My default accounts go thru flxtek.net.
POP server name: flxtek.net
SMTP server name: flxtek.net
Yes there is no pop or mail or smtp before either of the name.
Whoever if I put in the 127.0.0.1. POP server name it trysto collect the mail from flxtek.net not tiyogi.com. And it gives me the following messege
Sending of password did not succeed on server 127.0.0.1. repsonded Unable to log on
So what do I have to put in the Avast4.ini to get it to look for tiyogi.com for the POP mail server?
Right now I have this is in my Avast4.ini
[MailScanner] DefaultPopServer=flxtek.net DefaultSmtpServer=flxtek.net
ShowTrayIcon=1
UseDefaultSmtp=0
AutoSetProtection=0
PopListen=127.0.0.1:110
SmtpListen=127.0.0.1:25
ImapListen=127.0.0.1:143
What do I have to add to get it to check tiyogi.com for the other POP server?
avast! supports multiple accounts. The default account is just that default (not only account). That is the one that would be used if for instance you wanted to send a file from the virus chest to avast team.
Set up your second pop3 account within Thunderbird as if avast wasn’t there, just like your other account is set up.
The latest version of the Internet Mail provider is transparent so no more messing with the ini file to get it to work.
Set up your second pop3 account within Thunderbird as if avast wasn't there, just like your other account is set up.
Do I not have to put in the 127.0.0.1 server name?
I know I can not just put in the sever name because I have tried this and the mail was not scanned thru avast.
The mail was just receive unscanned.
So what are you talking about.
In Thunderbird I can assign POP server names in account setting, are talking about this place?
If you’re using Windows 2k\XP, the version 4.5 has a new mail detection that will work automatically. Please, set up your email account just as avast does not exists. It will detect the pop3/smpt/imap ports and scan your messages. Can you make a try and see if it’s ok? Thanks.
New email detection is automatic and do not require user interaction. Anyway, spam killer applications need manually change email account settings Do you use any spam killer?
If you’re using Windows 98\Me, Thunderbird must be configurated manually. Change the setting of the email accounts into Thunderbird: Menu Tools > Account settings this way:
Pop3 (Inbound):
Server name: 127.0.0.1
User name: YourUserName#YourPopServerName
Port: 110
Smtp (Outbound):
Server name: 127.0.0.1
User name: YourUserName
(or, in some systems, user name is: YourUserName#YourSmtpServerName)
Port: 25
Note, probably you should run Mail Protection Wizard to have ashMaiSv.exe automatically running at Windows startup.
Sorry forgot to say I am using
Win98.
Firefox 1.0 as my main browser and IE only when I have to .
Now about your post.
No I am using no spam killer applications. I have never really need one so I have none installed.
This may be the problem.
The email account are for a website that I host.
The email account orginally given to me by the web hosting company will work with the standard
Server name: 127.0.0.1
User name: YourUserName#YourPopServerName
Port: 110
My one remaining email account will not accept the use of the # if I try and use it in the address like above I get and illegal error from the POP server sign in. I will only accept the @ . This account is one that I am able to create under the web hosting options.
This one also only accepts the domain name for my website, I can not use the Server name: 127.0.0.1 if I try and use it , it will look for the flxtek.net POP and not the tiyogi.com.
Is there some way of specifing to look for the other account. With out using the # . Can I enter it into the Avast4.ini some how when using this one particular account?
