How to submit a suspicious file?

Hello,

Avast!Home user. I think I have a file that is infected. To be more certain I checked it in VirusTotal and the result showed that some scanners already spot a virus in it: http://www.virustotal.com/es/analisis/8c11ac4bfccc8183d36f3ef44b55feb35a0d13b89499be02d4bb0b649467336f-1259237548

Is there any way I can submit it to you so that I can help you have a most updated antivirus database? An option to submit a file in Avast!Home would be just ok I guess.

Greetings,

Hello derebo,

you can send the password protected zip file to virus@avast.com with the subject “malware undetected by 4.8.1367” and the password, link to this topic.

or you can add the file to avast! chest and you can select email to avast option, do a manual update so that file is uploaded to avast! servers.

thanks

Hello mnb,

It’s done. If there’s anything else, I’ll be gald to help. I’d like to know what sort of infection is caused and damages… :frowning:

Greetings,

edit: I’m sending from Yahoo and I can tell you their antivirus did not detect anything…

actually speaking,

yahoo uses norton for scanning files uploaded. there can be two reasons for their antivirus not detecting the file:

1.) the file password is protected, hence can’t scan the files.
2.) they have no detection for the file yet. (you can observe in the virustotal.com link you have given that norton has no detection for it.)

there is nothing you can do other than reporting the files you find that avast! is not detecting or the false positives.

if you closely observe the virustotal.com results, the detections, as seen, are either suspicious or heuristics. so it might be a false positive by other antiviruses. only avast! guys can tell as to what actually the file is. if they do not reply for a while or if avast! doesn’t detect the file after few days, it might be a clean file.

thanks
