How to temporarily disable Avast free

I can’t figure out how to temporarily disable Avast free antivirus in order to install some software. Can it be temporarily disabled and then reactivated or do I have to entirely uninstall it?

Which software would require you to disable avast?

Right/click on your Avast icon in the system tray, go to Avast Shields Control, you can disable shields for various time frames or until you restart etc.

Does this help you out with what you wanted?

Whilst it is easy enough to disable avast temporarily - the very old advice by many programs to disable your anti-virus before installing should be pretty much redundant now.

I would be concerned if a program asked to disable your AV at a time when an AV is likely to be needed most, when installing new software. This I believe is the reason Alikhan asked the question, what program.

Also are you getting any problems (alerts, etc.) whilst trying to install it, or is this just what the software advises ?

Thank you lakrsrool. That’s what I wanted to know.

Just to clarify, this advice can also very easily get your system infected.
Installing anything while not protected is the quickest way to infect your computer.
Your computer your choice.
