How to uninstall Avast!Free completely?

Hi all!

I have un-installed Avast!Free, but my outlook2007 still giving me a warning message every time I start it,
→ I also tried to delete Avast registry (using regedit, and search for Avast) setting
→ but the same result!
→ so can someone give me some help on how to uninstall Avast completely?

Thanks for any kind of help!

Download the Avast uninstall utility from here http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and follow the instructions given. Run it and select from the drop down menu the version of Avast that you wish to uninstall. If you have had more than one version of Avast installed please run it for each.

Why are you giving up avast?
I suggest an installation from scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. Or even upgrade your key from old versions.
  7. Check and post the results. If, for any reason, you did not solve, try doing the step 3 in Safe Mode anyway.

What warning message?

You need to disable the add ons in Outlook. Its under Tools\Options\Other\Advanced Options. We had the same problem at work when we stopped using Symantec.

I also had this problem after i tried out AVG almost 4 years ago.
After uninstalling it, Outlook displayed the error message such as "Outlook cannot load the “addon’s name” add-on etc.
I had to reinstall AVG to the same paths then completely uninstalling it in order to eradicate the error message.

Therefore,
If the complete uninstallation, using avast! removal tool (aswclear.exe) does not work, try reinstalling it to the same paths then removing it again.

Hope this helps

Thanks all!

I will try using Avast Uninstall Utility,
→ but how to restart Windows to Safe Mode?
→ I am using WinXP

Rgds,

Safe Mode is obtainable by repeatably tapping F8 as your pc first boots up. Safe Mode is not necessary to run the uninstaller tool.

Please follow Avast’s instructions which state to run the uninstall utility in safe mode. If you don’t you will receive a warning to do so.

Uninstall Utility
Sometimes it´s not possible to uninstall avast! the standard way - using the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in control panel. In this case, you can use our uninstallation utility aswClear.

How to uninstall our software using aswClear:
1.Download aswclear.exe on your desktop
2.Start Windows in Safe Mode
3.Open (execute) the uninstall utility
4.If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
5.Click REMOVE
6.Restart your computer

You can also use Revo Uninstaller in Advanced Mode.

No. It does not work. It’s a myth that Revo Uninstaller could do a good job with antivirus and/or firewalls and, generally, with programs that do require a boot to uninstall.
avast won’t be better uninstalled using Revo than its dedicated uninstall tool.
Dieselman, take care… You do NOT know anything about everything.

I use Revo Uninstaller all the time. Works great. I actually used it last week to uninstall Avast and try MSE. Using the Avast uninstaller is the first method but Revo works just as good. Its another option and other tool. Its all in how you use Revo. When Avast asks to reboot or any other program just say no. Then click scan on Revo and remove what it finds. Then reboot.

Yes!
I can uninstall completely Avast!Free using the Uninstall Utility!
→ and now no warning message when starting Outlook2007.

Thanks Dieselman and all of you that giving help!

Your welcome.

No, it’s not. It just remove the entries (files/registry keys) necessary to remove the application after boot giving the appearance of good and deeper work in the specific case of avast (and antivirus/firewall in general).

BAD ADVICE! DON’T DO THAT!

Tech…Use Revo and get back to me. That is how you use Revo. If you don’t know how a program works then don’t bash it. If you reboot when the program tells you to then it cannot remove the left overs. Notice how hhtmp88 thanked me first. Your welcome.

For your concern, I have Revo installed in my computer and I use it. It’s a great software. But it is not a panacea.
And definitively, avast uninstall tool does the better job.

Please, don’t post here as the other are idiots.
I post about the software I use, test.

I know how Revo works. But you does not seem to know how a program is programed to be removed after boot by itself (and Windows).

Proves how can bad advice make harm to not advanced users.

So telling hhtmp88 how to get into safe mode is bad advice…LOL. This is too much. Thanks.

yeah, he basically thanked you for advising him to run the “avast” uninstall utility, no big deal ;D ::slight_smile:

ps: and not revo

No, I’m not referring to that. I’m referring to you saying me that I’m posting about a program that I don’t know or use.
