How to uninstall Free AVAST

Hello,
I am new and lost. I had the free version of AVAST and it worked for a few months and then stopped working. I would double click on it and nothing. So I tried to reinstall and it said it couldn’t because I already had it and it was running. But I couldn’t see it on force quit-- it didn’t show up. So it was running but not running?

The only way to uninstall is if it is working. So I dragged the application to the trash and then emptied the trash and restarted my machine. It says that it is still installed. Because it is the free version, I can’t talk to a human being, must get my help here or from an article that doesn’t exist. Aaak.

I am not even sure that I will ever find this post and any replies to it, as I find this forum to be confusing and overwhelming. If you can email me (I gave permission on my profile), please do so. I am pretty sure there is a file or something in the library or somewhere tucked away that I need to delete. I just don’t know what.

Thanks,

Jackie

To Clarify, I use a Mac, not windows. Easy to uninstall with Windows. Is there an uninstaller I can download to do the same for Mac?

I’ve alerted Avast. Let’s see if that gets you the help you need.

Hello,
if Avast app is still present in Applications (=directory /Applications/Avast.app still exists), start Terminal app and in it paste the following command:

sudo /Applications/Avast.app/Contents/Backend/hub/uninstall.sh

and press enter. It will ask for your password.

If it is not present, try to delete Avast’s Application Support directory by running the following command in Terminal app:

sudo rm -rf /Library/Application\ Support/Avast

It will ask for your password.

Afterwards installation should once again be possible.
