I didn’t have it installed but today after the upgrade to the latest version, avast shoved it down my throat again! I don’t want this crap and because of this I will not renew my subscription! I just want an Antivirus yet avast! has become one of the most bloated AV solutions out there.
Now I don’t even see an option to uninstall this crap browser from programs and features, the only thing listed is Avast! AV Pro! >:(
Since it is integrated into the antivirus it can be uninstalled in the same way as other avast modules.
You will find it within the antivirus settings in programs and features > avast antivirus > Change - from the next window select > Modify - now uncheck the SafeZone Browser option.
I have been using avast free for 12 years now, I needed some help when I started and other avast users helped me. Without their help I might not be here.
I monitored the forums for a while getting a better understanding of avast and whenever possible helping other avast users and the rest is history, I’m still here
I feel the same way, DavidR. When I came here today I was not a happy person because SafeZone Browser had ambushed me again. I was overjoyed to find this thread, as I was seconds away from ditching the entire Avast program to get rid of the stupid thing. Your post fixed me right up.
I do have a question. I still have an SZ Browser folder in my Avast Software folder, and it contains a batch file called k.bat. It was installed with the rest of the browser files. Any idea why it was left behind? Can I delete it without wrecking something else?
I must say that I really don’t appreciate these hit-and-run tactics on the part of Avast. How could they possible think that users would enjoy getting repeatedly blindsided this way? It makes me wonder if this will continue with every program update. I’ve used Avast for years and I’ve been happy with it, but I think I’ll have to find another anti-virus program now. I no longer trust Avast.
By all accounts (from other posts) the k.bat (batch) file is used in the removal of the SZ Browser and upon completion it is meant to remove itself and the SZBrowser folder.
Why it hasn’t in your case I don’t know, to remove it and the SZBrowser folder you would first need to disable the AvastUI > Settings > Troubleshooting > uncheck the ‘Enable Avast self-defence module’ and answer Yes to the on-screen question.
today yet another update took place to version 2261 but luckily it didn’t install the Avast! Safe Zone Browser. Glad Avast! listened to the feedback quickly when I submitted a ticket abouot my disappointment 2 days ago with this unwanted browser being force fed to users
