How to update

Is anyone having any problems using the update program feature within Avast! to update, or are things going pretty smoothly? The reason I ask is because I had problems after updating to 1169 and had to remove program and do a fresh install; since then all has been good; but I would like to avoid problems if I could ::slight_smile: and I was wondering about other users experiences…so how goes it guys? do you recommend starting from scratch…or using update feature? One more question…I think I read somewhere you have to disable the self defence module before updating…is this a “yes” or something I read and misunderstood? I would also like to mention you guys are doing a GREAT job  Keep up the good work!

I recommend, update or repair or, if everything fails, installation from the scratch.

Repair your installation: go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

Installation from the scratch:
Uninstall avast from Control Panel first. Boot. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation. Boot. Install again the latest avast! version. Boot.

Self-defense module shouldn’t be disable for updating.

Thanks for your reply…so the disabling of the self defense module only applies to the beta testing…is that where I got that from? ???

Do you mean to update? Yes. You don’t have to disable the self-defense module to update the official releases. (Also, I think even the beta updates have changed in this particular issue).

Thanks Tech…actually I did update yesterday…all is good…once again very pleased with everyone on the Avast! team.
