How to use the Mail scanner

So i use avast free version, and have had trouble with mail viruses before, therefore i would like to set up the mail shield.

BUT even though i’ve added both in an out of my email account, complete with port, protocol and encryption,
the scanner still stays at 0 emails scanned both total and last.

What do i do?

PS: Please hide your email to protect you from Spam (Profile → Account Settings → uncheck “Allow users to email me” -->Change profile
