How to view results

Just downloaded V.5 and it is working fine. Forgive my dumbness, but I still need step-by-step instructions on how to view the results of a scan. Where do I find the log files etc? I scanned a single program item, and all I got was a white screen.

Do you mean that you right clicked a file and scanned? I think the defult setting is to only show a result if infected

Up in the top right corner " Help center "
also recomended download http://www.avast.com/download-documentation

check “generate report files”

as “quick scan”–More details"–“setting”–“report file”–“generate report files” as so in “Real-Time Protection” options

Yes. And you are probably right. When I right-click on an item, then scan, all I see is a white screen with the word Scan at top and the word Close at bottom. There doesn’t appear to be anything going on, and I am yet to see a Results report anywhere.

try this
top right corner settings > basic > tic “special scans”

Hi stanislaus,

When you right click scan a file, you should be presented with a window that looks like my image…

However, you can also find the scan logs for all scans by following:

Open avast! GUI → ‘Scan Computer’ on the left → ‘Scan Logs’ just underneath.

Context menu scan logs will show the name/path of the file. Like the second image.

All this does is add them to the ‘scan now’ page, and allows you to configure them.

Thanks, spg Scott, you are really trying to help me. When I scan an item from the context menu I get that exact screen of your first GIF but absolutely empty. How long should I wait to get evidence that anything is happening? I must be missing a setting here or something. When I click Scan Logs I get an equally virgin list … nothing.

Hmmm…normally for me that window is instantaneous…I wonder why yours isn’t?

Do the other scans work? Do they leave a log file there?

Possibly an error in the installation?

Maybe a repair will help.
