Wasn’t this a conflict while running Spectrum Anti Bot Scanner - charter.net is scam messages.
Wait for a final verdict from avast team, they are the only ones to comment on this.

Me too - same here - and just posted a reply on another thread here about mail sheild blocking emails - in all these thread the main idea is this is happening to many with no option to recover or stop it - AVAST is aware of it and stopped it for some people apparently (can’t really tell) and I’ve sent sample false positive email to AVAST but no reply and no fix yet. I’m writing here to mention i turned off mail shield (this works to stop it but is drastic maneuver) then instructed AVAST to never quarantine automatically but to ask every time what to do - turned mail shield back on and it STILL auto-quarantines. This is of unacceptable behavior as it seems something is drastically wrong with AVAST all sudden and needs an immediate fix to stop this intolerable behavior permanent. TIA
Just an update - I re-repaired Thunderbird email folder w/mail shield off and all emails restored and unmarked VIRUS.
JIC this update helps. Hope AVAST can find a fix for this soon - mail shield off is not a good resolution for this problem.
Just takes one generic detected mail to set this whole pattern off (plain txt messages seem unaffected).
Hopefully avast team will look into the issue, as it also has been reported in France, see:

So it seems more end-users are being affected by this generic detection,

Hi - Just an update - after sending a sample email in question from quarantine, Avast generously got back to say, “Our virus specialists have been working on this problem and it has been resolved. Detection should not be appearing anymore.”
