HTTP error (403)

I am using a window Me and XP at home. On the XP, every thing is fine, but on the Me, I get:

Information about current update:
Last encountered error: Other HTTP error (403), while trying 66.98.136.92:80//iavs4x/servers.def

Total time: 1:14

It happens all the time, it is really annoying, and I guess the anti virus is not doing the update!

Suggestions:

  • Read Avast help and make yourself familiar with Avast.
  • Use the search option on this board before asking.
  • Check the FAQ on Avast’s website.

I went through the FAQ and search tool on the forum and didn’t found an answer for my problem, could you give me a tip?

Check ALL your security (related) software on that system.

I have none, besides the antivirus and firewall (disabled), nether a anti-spyware! Isn’t that some kind of Windows Me problem?

Something is wrong on that system. We only have to find out what before we can fix it.
Is the update working if you disable the av?
Did you change any settings in Avast’s update uptions?
Do you have any other problems?
Are you behind a router/hub?
Are you in a lan?
Does browsing work as it should?
etc etc.

HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden, is very strange and would seem to relate more to a permissions problem rather than can’t connect or page not found (404).

This link may throw some light on the 403 error and what may help.

Also try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
