: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select Remove Java Runtime. Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

Thanks EB, I’ve disabled java for now, I think there is a site I use that needs java, I did uninstall it quite a while ago and had to reinstall.
I will uninstall if I don’t need it any more, and keep it disabled until needed ( if I do need it).

Thank you :-*

My pleasure

Everything has been working well since the fix but today it seems windows cannot update. I have a pop up which I have taken a screen shot of and attached. I tried to update manually and failed. Also attached is the windows error notice. Any ideas what might be wrong now? ???

Click the resolve online now hyperlink as windows does not think your copy is genuine

It is telling me that I have to purchase genuine windows!

You may have:

•Downloaded software that attempts to bypass Windows activation, commonly called an activation exploit
•Downloaded malware that has infected your PC and modified, removed, or disabled essential Windows files
•Inadvertently purchased counterfeit Windows from an unreliable source (how can I tell?)
To fix this, install genuine Windows and activate with a valid product key.

I can’t afford £79 to install new windows. Can I use my recovery discs? This has to be from the re-image >:(

Follow the steps here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/activate-windows#1TC=windows-7

Followed the instructions and it said windows is activated. There is no option to activate windows.

I will contact mocrosoft support and let you know what they are saying. I’ve had this computer for 3 years and now they say it isn’t genuine so hopefully they will be able to do something. Thanks again EB.

Sorted, still don’t know how it happened but microsoft support were great, they fixed it remotely after ages trying to find the right code. Kept asking me if I had the cd but it was pre loaded. In the end I looked at the bottom of the laptop and there it was, a sticker on the bottom with the key.

After 2+ hours with microsoft, who said the problem was now fixed the pop up is back today. >:(

Could I have a screenshot of the popup

New one just appeared.
