First of all, I'd like to tell you sorry if my English isn't the best. As you may know by my name, which is CarlosSpain (Note the 'SPAIN'), I'm Spanish and my native language is Spanish, not English.

Hello AVAST! forum users, I hope you can help me with my problem. OK, I’ve been trying to download a program called ‘Notepad++’, no idea if you know it. Well, the problem comes here: when the download is finishing (there are only 0,4MB left), AVAST! shows a message saying that the file is too old or it’s not frequent. Well, it’s from the third of November… It’s the last version of this program, ‘Notepad++’, which was released 3rd of Nov. So, I guess that isn’t too old, as AVAST! says… Right? So I’m here asking if this program is a virus, malware, or something. I also tried with other versions, older versions… And same! But, weird thing is that when I download it in a .ZIP file, it doesn’t say it’s a virus! And other thing, I downloaded it yesterday and told AVAST! not to stop the download… But well, I scanned the .EXE in my Downloads folder and it didn’t say it’s a virus… Whatever, I deleted it and didn’t open it, and now I come here asking this… My questions:

-Is the file a virus, malware, whatever…? Or a called ‘false positive’?

-Is my computer infected if I just downloaded the file once but deleted it? I didn’t open it.

-Why doesn’t it say it’s a virus if I scan the .EXE, and also when I download it by .ZIP?

Some more information (yes, more!):
-The Notepad++ website is: http://notepad-plus-plus.org
-I used this program months ago.
-I really trusted this program in the past, it didn’t give me any problem.
-Should I add an image? Alright, it’s in Spanish but I’ll ‘translate’ you to English…

Thank you people, I’m a bit worried about this because I really need this program!

-Why doesn't it say it's a virus if I scan the .EXE, and also when I download it by .ZIP?
bc it is not infected .... and say suspicious. ???
-Is the file a virus, malware, whatever...? Or a called 'false positive'?
upload and suspicious files at www.virustotal.com and test with 40+ malware scanners

Thank you for your fast answer, sir!

For the first one, I wanna ask you: and if it’s suspicious, isn’t it a virus? or why is it suspicious then? Sorry, but I’m too bad about this kind of things (malware, virus, infections…).

I’ll try VirusTotal, and… How do you mean? Uploading the file when I already downloaded it into my computer (from my computer) or other thing? Because I saw that there’s a Web option.

as you posted above.

I just downloaded the latest version from the original website and there was no problem.
http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.5.1.html

Virustotal shows no suspicious things:

There are however security risks for tuxfamily.org:

Oh, I thought that this program was popular (between AVAST! users too)… Whatever, I already made a scan of my file from my computer (the Notepad++ .EXE file) and it said 0/48. So, is it malware-free? Is VirusTotal 100% right?

Thank you!

EDIT: I just saw Eddy’s reply. Eddy, so as there was no problem for you, should I download the file? But you also said that there were some problems with tuxfamily, the web where I download it from…

There is nothing wrong with the file from the official website.
Download it from there and you are all good.
