I am VERY MAD

Thanks for the info lukas!

Props to edj for linking us to the correct build to install. My version 6 server upgraded to 7 without major issues thus far.

Dear Ed,

Thank you for your input and your links: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_console_epsp.exe

“This updates your console to ASOA 1.2.2.8 and your ABP/ABPP licenses file is valid.”

SOA installed over SBC in 5 minutes, in 10 minutes I was managing systems. It used the existing license file transparently, I had to do nothing!

Way fantastic guys! SBC is like Vista, it had to exist so the next version could be so good!

I have the same problem on 3 machines and tried to apply the ASOA update to verion 1.0.888.19 of the Avast Business Protection but it left me without a usable admin page :frowning: What is my next step, luckily it is running in a virtual machine so rolled back to before the update and disabled automatic program update for all users.

today I also have the same problem, I will try to install the RC
if this problem can solve when the new version will release?

Please note that admin web page address has changed:

http://hostname:8731/

Thank you, after the installation of ASOA and a new deployment of the clients afterwards, my customers are able to receive email again! Unfortunatetly a lot of mails got lost and I wasn’t able to find or restore them yet. Has anyone an idea where I could find those Mails?

OK… looks like after re-deploying and waiting overnight, it did finally pick up the license. Hopefully the new build will eliminate that hassle. Will test it when I can.

I too am VERY MAD that Avast would choose to Push out a major version release as an “update”. We should have been given the option to deploy this manually, not as a “client update”. These types of decisions are what keep us resellers from introducing Avast to larger customers.

This is just another reason for us to consider switching our clients to a different anti-virus product. I’m rapidly losing faith that Avast will ever have the right support & attitude to compete with the “big boys” like Symantec’s Endpoint Protection. Disappointing.

Thanks for wasting my night & personal time! >:(

I understand your feelings and it’s a catch 22. avast! ver. 7 is the product that is rated #2 now, and NOT version 6. So I understand the concept of the push to version 7 by Avast Software, as they are trying to give us the best protection they can.

And yes, it scares me when the push occurs. However, all of this WAS in your control, as the reseller, to configure the program updates to manual (especially on servers)

The default of auto updates is a necessity for most users, because they will NEVER do any update. I discuss this issue with my clients. I tell them the truth.

There is no useful software that is bug free. By the time it is bug free, it is obsolete! J.R. Guthrie

I understand that it’s always a compromise, it’s the nature of the beast.

That being said, if an administrator enables program updates, it should be for minor version changes to the client. A major release version shouldn’t be pushed out automatically. If there were more configuration options to specify update control for minor & major versions differently, that would help the situation.

unfortunately, we are not able to change the behavior of the “old” products :frowning:
Anyway, your comments are valid and we should discuss these changes for next versions.
thank you
Lukas
