I can not install .1426

Hello,
I tried to do a clean install of .1426 but it not possible. A warning informed me: ‘C:\PROGRA-1\AVASTS-1\Avast\aswRegSvr64.exe.’ I could not do an upgrade too. I need help. I am fed up of doing restoring points.

Uhm, what did the warning say, exactly? And at which stage did it appear? And did the installation roll back, or what?

Thanks
Vlk

Hello Vlk,
The installation rolled back. The installing started and after finishing it started the uninstalling process. The warning appeared. My OS is W7HP 64 bit, 4 GB ram

Was it a clean install? Have you tried removing the remnants of the previous version via aswClear?

Thanks.

Windows cannot find ,C:\PROGRA-1\AVASTS-1\Avast\aswRegSvr64.exe.’ I did a restore point version .1414 and whwen I tried to insert the license another warning: unable to insert the license file. The AAVIM subsystem detected a RPC error.

Yes. I used avast cleaning tool in safe mode and after restarting I used CClean.

I did a restore and now the version .1414 works. I cannot upgrade to .1426. Please I need help. I am fed up with so many restore points. I want to do a clean install.
Regards

Clean Install:

  • Download the latest version of avast, 7.0.1426 see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=95170.0 for direct links and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).

    1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

Hi DavidR,
I followed your instructions regarding a clean install. I could not do it. The same problem. During installing the process stopped: creating restore point and the process reversed. The AIS7 uninstall itself. A warning informed me: windows cannot find:‘C:\PROGRA-1\AVASTS-1\Avast\aswRegSvr64.exe.’ I did another restore point and now AIS7 .1426 works. I wander if somebody can fix the problem and I am fed up to do restore points in order for AIS7. It is a waste of time. I like avast but if the problem is not fix I have to look for another antivirus. All problems started with AIS7 beta. I could not do a clean install only upgrade. For two days I used MSE. Installing this antivirus program did not create any problem. Can this problems be fixed or not? Thanks for your advice.

Relu

Well I honestly don’t know why this is happening as I don’t have system restore enabled on my XP system.

Hello Avast team,
I appreciate your work, but my question is: can you fix the problem with ‘aswRegSvr64.exe’ in order to do a clean install of AIS7? I am not an expert in computers, really I need help. I wasted a lot of time regarding AIS7: installing and uninstalling and restoring my pc to an earlier time. I think this is not the best option neither a working around to solve the problem. If I install other internet security suite I have no problems. I tell you the truth: I like avast and the forum therefore I do not want to give up easily. Please do something to fix this.

Relu

I’ve seen System Restore borking up system programs many times. In such cases it’s the best to use aswClear and install it from clean.

I always used avast cleaning tool in safe mode. It is impossible to do a clean install: the installer starts the process and in the middle of installing it stops and it starts uninstalling of the AIS7. A warning says: windows cannot find ‘C:\PROGRA-1\AVASTS-1\Avast\aswRegSvr64.exe’. I think it is clear enough: it is not possible to do a clean install.

Hi everybody,
I received an email from avast team how to solve the problem with a clean install of AIS7. Avast gave me 2 options: a. select custom installation and uncheck to install avast gadget; b. delete file 'c:\Program Files\Windows sidebar\Shared Gadgets\aswSidebar.exe. I tried both options but neither of them worked. In all the process I used avast cleaning tool in safe mode. Then I thought to install avast free from Filehippo. The installing work fine. After rebooting I tried to insert the license and I managed to do it. But firewall did not work. I uninstalled it and after cleaning I installed avast pro from avast site and I introduced the license. The installing finished OK and after rebooting it upgraded to AIS7. I uninstalled it and installed AIS7 not in trial mode. The process stopped and started to role back. I clean in safe mode and I install again avast pro, I inserted the license and the installation was OK. After rebooting it upgraded to AIS7 .1426. Now everything is OK. I think the problem is with AIS7. I hope that avast team will find a fix. I am happy that I could do a clean install.
Now I have a question: Does AIS7 works with Window firewall?
Thanks,
Relu

Yes it is compatible with the windows firewall.

Thanks DavidR

You’re welcome.

Just to clarify, the advice should have been to delete a file
‘c:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Shared Gadgets\aswSidebar.gadget’, if exist. This file could remain there after trying
some early versions of Avast 6. This file can prevent Avast 7 gadged from installing correctly, resulting in installation rollback.

Anyway, there could be more reasons which break installation in a similar way. If anything like this happens,
describe the situation to Avast support and send them a setup log:

  • there is a button “View setup log” in the middle of the last page of Avast install wizard (in case of setup error)
  • change verbosity to “debug”
  • click button “Copy to clipboard”
  • paste log content to notepad and save to a file.

Examining the log helps to locate a problem; in this case missing aswRegSvr64.exe was not a real reason, it was caused
by some earlier problem.

Petr

Hi Petr,
I deleted the file but I could not install AIS7. I could not copy the log by clicking’ copy to clipboard’. Does avast pro use aswRegSvr64.exe? If yes why I could not install AIS7. The only way is to install avast pro, insert the license and the program upgrade itself to AIS7.

Relu

If somebody can help me how to copy the installing log to clipboard I’d appreciate

Looks like the reason of the problem was different from the known one. Avast PRO (obviously) skips installation of parts
contained only in AIS, one of them must be a reason of the problem. We could get more information from setup log,
there is a step by step guide how to get it in Avast Support Center, see article:
