i cannot unistall avast

my son installed the avast free version, but when i tryed to unistall it from the control panel it says i cannot, i need authorization.
What is it?

You need to have administrator rights to install/uninstall software.

i understood that, but i want to unistall it, i do not need it, so what can i do?

???
You can only uninstall software with administrator rights. Log into your PC as adminisdtrator and uninstall via control panel.

What error messages are you getting when you attempt to uninstall it?

I think the problem is: he has no admin rights and doesn’t know the admin password…

I wouldn’t want to help then, you never know.

Ah.
You suspicious character, you!
Perhaps you’re right.

I think so also.

well man, i am an architect and know NOTHING about computers, i am totally ignorant.
I am not trying to enter a factory net or something like that, this computer is my own one, and i use it at home.
I can give to any tecnician all my references if someone suspects i am something not honest.
Anyway i have a computer that i cannot use, just because my son downloaded something free that i cannot uninstall anymore.
Is it legal to put on the web programs like that???

When i try to unistall it from control panel, it just doesn’t work, as if i wouldn’t click on the remove.

So, what antivirus is (or was) on the computer before your son put Avast on it?
The system tray icon (bottom right of the screen)…is the ball with the “a” in it blue or orange?

If orange, it’s Avast version 5; if blue, it’s version 4.
-Download the appropriate removal tool here,
save it to your desktop.
-Be sure you have the installation file for your preferred antivirus available before proceeding.
-Disconnect from the internet, reboot into safe mode url=http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml[/url] and run the removal tool by double-clicking it. This will take up to a minute.
-Reboot into normal mode.
-Install (or re-install) your preferred antivirus. Ask if you need help with that.
-Reconnect to the internet, update your antivirus.

Sorry that there were expressions of doubt; it was a slightly unusual request with not much background information. The sort of request someone might make to find a way to modify a stolen computer, or a kid might make to load the wrong kind of software onto the family computer.

Is it legal to put on the web programs like that?
Totally. Security programs often have a self-protection feature, to help prevent them from being disabled by malware. It is assumed that if someone downloads and installs such a program it is because they want to, and have the authority to do so. The license agreement for a free program is no less binding than that for a paid program.

It is normal to install and remove software from an administrator account. (See “user accounts” in the computer control panel.)\

Perhaps it would be a good idea to use an admin account for yourself and password protect it.
And set up a limited user account for your son. Or just don’t let him use your computer without permission.

+1

Are you the owner of the system or your son?

AHHHHH THANKS GOD.
At last i succeded in uninstall it.

Got still some problems with another antivirus program that my son installed, even if i think this is not an ativirus, but a virus, called security antivirus.

I have noticen on the web some programs that can help me with that.

Thanks a lot, really.

Please, don’t feel offended.
But sometimes there are youngsters coming to a forum and seek help to remove parental control features and stuff like that.
Glad to hear that you succeeded.

But: the symptoms on your PC don’t sound to good - this forum might help you to identify and remove any malware that might be on your machine.

Avast is a good security program, so you should consider cleaning up your PC and then secure it with a good AV product. Avast is just one good choice.

Read about Security Antivirus:
http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=40021

I like to have system Layered Protection with several security applications.

  • An up to date anti virus application: avast!
  • An up to date anti malware application like Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM)
  • Up to date HOSTS file that prevents access to known malware sites with hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS file managed with HostsMan.
  • A system Security monitor that watches over them that WinPatrol provides.

No problem man, thanks for the help i got.
I really know nothing about computers, i am awful with everything concerns them.
