Hey! Avast has found a virus, and it’s a pain. It shows up anytime I try to open up a file. Avast states that it’s a Trojan. The problem is, when I try to delete or move it, Windows denies the access. How can I fix this?
Hi Aslanemperor,
What’s the name and location of the file detected?
You can find this information in the avast! log.
winnt\system32
I believe that I can’t get rid of it because of it’s being in the system files. It’s a .dll
Is there a way that I can force windows to let me delete it?
Hi :
“Trojans” are best dealt with by SPECIALTY antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN program(s);
do you have any of these “types” of programs on your computer, such as the
FREE Version of “SUPERAntiSpyware” from www.superantispyware.com !?
No, I don’t. I try to be careful what I download, and I don’t have alot of money to spare on random programs…
Try a boot time scan with avast! Right click the scanner screen, select ‘schedule a boot time scan’ and reboot when requested.
This will bypass the Windows file protection, if it is available in your OS.
I tried that, but it’s still there. I tried doing it like 4 times actually.
Try SuperAntiSpyware as SpiritSongs mentioned (it’s free).
If still having problems, post a HijackThis! log.
Coooooo
Just downloaded and used the superantispyware as recommended by spiritsong and it works a treat and its free which is even better.
Seriously give it a try
I downloaded it and it got rid of some stuff but not what I’m aiming for. I can’t get it out. I’ve been trying though. Any other ideas. Basically, what I need to know, is how to bypass the permission requirements so that I can just delete the darn file myself. I know what file is infected, I just can’t delete it because of the type of file it is and where it is.
I feel for you Aslanemperor.
I had a similar problem but I wasn’t as advanced as you. My virus checker was disabled and was not even able to do a proper virus check. You’re a step ahead of that. You know what you need to get rid of.
Because of this problem of not being able to find or delete viruses with ordinary virus checkers, is the reason I turned to Avast. It has a boot-time scan. So, you can understand how I am now feeling, having found out in your post that you have a virus that Avast has found but cannot delete even during the boot-time scan.
I certainly believe that you have a major problem, but I think that Avast has an even bigger problem.
I ended up removing my virus with comboFix before installing Avast. Look at this link http://forums.pcpitstop.com/index.php?showtopic=154765 (start at the 2nd post), it runs through how to use ComboFix (also free). It also does a boot-time scan.
Hope it helps you as well.

Hey! Avast has found a virus, and it's a pain. It shows up anytime I try to open up a file. Avast states that it's a Trojan. The problem is, when I try to delete or move it, Windows denies the access. How can I fix this?Aslanemperor if your sure the file is safe to delete you could try using a Free program like Unlocker. This may be what you need to use? Unlocker
Hi just read this thread. One thing I noticed is that when you did the ‘off-line’ - boot time scan, you were not advised to force the deletion of the infection if it is found in the system folder. I presume therefore, you did not tell Avast to remove the file even if it is a system file?
It’s definitely worth a try… You’ll find this option when you go to “schedule boot time scan,” behind the “advanced” button. Firstly tell it what you want to do. (delete/ rename/move to chest etc.) then check the box allowing the action to be performed on system files. It will ask you for confirmation and warn about potential system damage. Just say yes - ok for now, becauseif it does really kill an important system file, those can normally be restored from your original install media and are generally available on line too.
Hope this helps…
