I get an error when I try to install Avast Free Antivirus. What can I do to solve this problem? I attached the logs.
What was the error displayed to the screen ?
Where were you installing this from, Avast Website or an installation file ?
I suspect you were using an on-line installation (sometimes called a stub installer) where the installation is controlled on-line.
If there happens to be any internet connection issue the installation could fail.
You could try downloading the off-line installation file and use that, get it here:
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
When I install avast with the offline installer, its GUI fails. I mean, the GUI never load because of an error. The thing is, I can install avast on some computers. However, it doesn’t work on another ones. I’m downloading Avast Free Antivirus on this page: https://www.avast.com/lp-ppc-hp-v2?ppc=a3&gclid=Cj0KCQjwgJv4BRCrARIsAB17JI64uUQPAjA_DyvExzCZ2-EttQem0RuDE-dy1LeBedv4HNkDvBqXLQMaAk8MEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
That download link is for the on-line installation file @ 216KB, so it isn’t the complete installation (see attached image 1). It controls the download of the on-line installation, so any issues with connection could result in a failure.
I suggest you use the off-line installation link that I gave for the full off-line installation file of 357MB (see attached image 2) big difference. Saving this file means you can install on another system easily and reinstall this system should there be a need to at some time.
I meant I downloaded the offline installation as well. I was able to install Avast Free Antivirus with the offline installation. However, the GUI fails to load. So, I can’t use the program properly.
Have you rebooted, on occasions it may take a couple of reboots.
If you have tried this, check out this - Avast UI Failed to Load - See https://support.avast.com/article/Troubleshoot-Embarrassing-UI-Failed-load.
I just uninstall Avast Free Antivirus with avastclear, then I installed it with the offline installation. I followed these instructions: https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/Troubleshoot-Embarrassing-UI-Failed-load/ However, the GUI keeps failing to load.
I’m at a bit of a loss as to what else to suggest as the support article should have been enough and followed by a clean install it should also have been enough. I have to assume that you followed the instructions as laid out.
So it would appear something else is blocking the loading if the Avast UI.
What other security based software do you have installed ?
Did you have another AV installed before avast and how did you remove that ?
Just seen another topic relating to the UI not loading and just wondered if it could be related.
Did you at any point switch Avast to Passive mode ?
I was having the same problem. I stopped Malwarebytes and the install completed correctly. Thanks.
Not at all, I don’t have any other AV, I even turned off Windows Defender. I have installed Avast Free Antivirus on a lot of computers. However, it worked for some of them but not for all of them. This is confusing because I’ve downloaded the online installation from the same page: “https://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#pc”. And when I install it with the offline installation the GUI always fails to load.
For example, I installed Avast Free Antivirus on my Laptop. However, I can’t install it on my desktop PC. Both have the same OS which is “Windows 8.1”.
There should be no need to turn off Windows Defender as it should be disabled by Windows when you install another 3rd party antivirus.
I’m confused too.
