I uninstalled my previous antivirus software and installed avast! home edition. After reboot my pc my avast! icon on the desktop is not what it supposed to be. When i double click on the icon. The pc shows unable to locate “ashAvast.exe”.
I can’t locate this application either.
What should i do?
What was your previous AV ?
Do you have any other security based software, e.g. AdAware, Spybot, WinPatrol, PrevX, etc. that may monitor and block new start-up entries ?
Your installation is obviously corrupted…
You need to uninstall, boot, install again and boot.
That files should be here: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4
I tried uninstalling and reinstall again but it is still the same. I tried install other free antivirus pragram, avg, it is still the same problem. The main lauch application cannot be created.
I think some other program in my pc is blocking it. I have ad-aware and spybot on my pc. I uninstalled both and reinstall
avast… The problem still exist. ![]()
My previous AV was pccillin. Uninstalled it already.
What makes me think again it’s not an avast trouble but old antivirus installations that left trash behind in files and Windows Registry

A removal tool for Norton is SymNRT.
But as you say you just have PcCillin, maybe you can find in their homepage/forum any further help :-[

Well… you need really get rid of Norton.
- Remove NAV through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
- Use Symantec removal tool (browse their site to get it, there are one for each antivirus series). Removing your Norton program using SymNRT.
- Boot.
- Install avast! Boot.
- See what you get.
It was exactly what I did but It doesn’t work normally … :-\
Can you please add the following lines to setup.ini (in avast4\setup):
[BufferLog]
Enable=1
Then start update/repair again, and SetupDbg.log should be generated.
Please, post the contents here, it should give us a clue of the problem.
Other option is posting the last lines of the setup.log (at that same folder).
