Have you just installed this ?
If so you have 30 days until you would ordinarily have needed to register it.
However, the avast free version is i the process of change in relation to having to register. If you ignore the registration at the end of the 30 days it should auto register. I haven’t come across this new registration, so I can’t speak from personal experience.
Could be the same problem as with the updates.
Change your DNS to Google DNS and see if it works.

I am getting this with my ongoing subscription (about to end after this update, I want my computer back!).
Have subscribed for 2 years and now my activation is bad apparently, can log in online. AVAST will not read a license.avastlic either, says its corrupt even though I just made it from my online account.
After advice from the forum I uninstalled the product using avastclear.exe, this because the UI kept crashing after the last update. I installed a clean offline copy of internet security (which I pay for) and now I can’t activate it.
What a total shambles this AV is. I will be demanding a refund if this is not put right quickly. 6 goes to get readable verification image, it’s like AVAST don’t want my business.
The captcha code is there the only first three post and it really helps to keep spammers away.

I pay for a service I am no longer receiving, this update sucks, roll it back. It does not ease my concerns, AVAST has screwed up and I am subbed until Jan 2018, I have been living with a product that sees turning my machine on as a new network and resets all my program access preference so I have to run with nag screens in between the UI crashing every few hours. This is rubbish.
My message had to do with the free version of Avast.
