I have Avast 2.74R0 (service kit 1.41) on my Mac (running Mac OSX 10.4.11). I can’t uninstall avast. I’ve tried all the tips I’ve previously seen on this site. The quit commands are greyed out and it is not possible to drop and drag to the trash. I’ve checked preferences and the “persistent” box is not ticked. So I’m stuck! Any ideas?
Go to system preferences then click on accounts and remove avast from your login items. Restart your Mac and try removing it again.
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately Avast is not in the start at login menu. It is as if Avast has managed to bury itself somewhere. Any other ideas? Feeling frustrated and dumb!
For 10.5 and newer systems, there’s no login preferences mechanism - instead, we use launchd. This is controlled from preferences (that “persistent mode”). Turn this mode off, then quit the app.
