I can't update program

I’ve tried to update the program but I’ve received the message: Other HTTP error (in the log I see ‘Return code:0x20000006 [Other HTTP error]’). I’m using Windows XP Pro. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Does the virus DB (aka VPS) update work? Has it worked at all? How long have you been using avast? What version of virus database do you have (that will give us a hint whether avast was ever updated).

Sorry for the lack of info!
I use Avast since last month and the virus DB update worked fine (as the antivirus itself) but the other day the program detected a new version so I tried to update with that error.
I’ve tried now the virus DB update and works fine, but no the program update. Is it necessary to post some log file?

Yes, please send the file \setup\setup.log to

forejt at avast dot com

or

kubecj at avast dot com

or both.

Thanks,
Vlk

Hi!
I mailed the setup.log to forejt. I hope that helps.

I’ve tried the update again and the message error has changed!
Now it says that is a 404 error (missing file?) when it trys to download the file av_pro_dll40A-80-6.vpu
Moreover the program update try and try again to download the file until I cancel the operation.

This is most probably a bug in an italian version. Will be fixed in the next release sometimes this week.

Sorry.

Well… but I’m using the spanish version. I supose that this version has the same bug.
I’ll wait until the next release.

Thanks!

I got the same problem yesterday. It seems it has something to do with the server itself as I was unable to connect to it.
Today everythings fine and there’s no more error.
Try later.

Sorry, my mistake. It was problem with 0x40A locale (that I remembered correctly), but I mistakenly said it’s Italian. Nope, 0x40A is Spanish, indeed.

Was your problem solved with latest (268) release?

thanks,

Problem solved!
Let me tell you how. My plan was: 1)uninstall avast (version 260) 2)install the new version (268). So I stopped the program and went to the add/remove programs in the Control Panel. Then the setup program gave me the chance to update so I decided to try again from there and… Bingo! the update worked well. Now I have installed the new version of avast. It seems to me that the problem was the antivirus was running during update. I’ll try again the update feature when a new version is released.

Thanks for your replies!
