I can't upgrade version 4.8.1229

I don’t know why, I can’t upgrade the version of viruses data base. I am using the ¡AVS Update option, but nothing happen. The windows security icon is in red showing problems with antivirus version - it is not updated. The OS version is XP Service Pack 3 over a ThinkPad X41.

Any suggestion? Thanks in advance

Try the Program Update option. Avast is now at 4.8.1296.

Also check the computer date/time is correct.
And do you use a third party firewall?
