I did something stupid and I need help

I just updated the components of Avast! 4.7 on my old NEC laptop which runs on Windows 2000. After rebooting, this message showed up: “Re: the AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error”
So I started the Avast! program and while it was doing the initial memory check, it detected an .exe virus. I tried to move it to the chest, but apparently that was not an option. Here’s the stupid part: The next time the virus warning appeared, I selected delete instead of move to chest. Bad idea. So when I restarted my computer, this message appeared: “s0000139 The procedure entry point _avlldvrm could not be located in the dynamic link library ntdll.dll” It goes on to suggest possible ways of exploring and/or dealing with the problem, all of which I’ve tried and none of which have worked. I figured the file I deleted was the missing entry point, and now I’m in trouble. Can anyone please help me? I know it’s no really a problem related to the software, but I sort of got here because I was trying to keep it updated. Any help, or directions to where I could find help, is very much appreciated.

You are not mentioning what version of 2k you are running.

If you have 2k server, you need to install the server version of avast.
Not the home or the pro version.

read the topic “Reboot of the computer”

Windows NT. The Home version has been working fine for the past year. I can’t access the control panel because it when I start the computer, it stops loading after a few seconds and flashes the “entry point not found message.” Thanks for the prompt replies, Eddy and brins. Much appreciated.

Use the recovery console and see if you fix things from there.

And please let us know what exact version of Windows you have.

NT is a predecessor of 2k, so that can not be the version.

Yes, the problem is the same (it occurs both on Windows 2000 and Windows NT4). The fixed version should be released today.
Does NT4 have anything like “Last known good configuration” boot option?
