I don't want Avast to keep adding itself to my desktop or start menu

I don’t like my desktop cluttered, but if I delete the Avast icon, it comes back on some later reboot. Not always immediate, but almost always within a day.

I organise my start menu so I can find things. But Avast also insists upon sticking its icon at the top level (I want it under a folder called Utilities, to which I have moved it many times to no avail.

Is there some way to turn off this useless and annoying behaviour? I could understand it doing it if I asked it to repair itself, but there’s no point in doing it about daily.

I will be watching for an answer to this recent annoyance.
In the meantime I just keep dragging the unwanted desktop shortcut icon to Recycle Bin whenever it appears.

I’m pretty sure the icons re-appear after each update. And they are nothing but annoying. I’ve been using Avast for more then 15 years and I’m about to dump it. It’s become so invasive. I can’t run Fan Control on my PC because Avast blocks it all the time. How is that protecting my PC when it’s going to cause it to overheat.(Actually the MB kicks in and takes over auto control of the fans) I want to control my PC! I built it the way I wanted and I want to run it the way I want to. But Avast doesn’t let me run my PC. It’s nothing but a pain!

Agreed. Every damn time after an update I have a dumb icon on the desktop.

About Avast blocking Fan Control: Fan Control requires Ring 0 access which is a risk. You can disable ‘block vulnerable kernel drivers’ to make it work. At your own risk.
