I found my pop-up dictionary in the virus chest...

I use a German pop-up dictionary by Langenscheidt, which allows me to highlight words, right-click on them, and look them up in the dictionary. But suddenly it didn’t work any more, and the .exe file could no longer be found.

I found it in the Virus Chest of Avast, and the information in ‘properties’ showed that it is infected with “Win32:Evo/gen”.

:frowning:

Does this mean that this programme has been targeted by a virus? Would I need to reinstall it? Or is this a false positive?

If it is a false positive, how do I get the programme out of the virus chest and stop Avast from putting it in quarantine?

I would be very thankful for help with this.

if you right click the file in chest and scan again… is it still detected?

if not, right click again and restore…
if still detected, right click again and upload to avast lab as possible false detection…
you may want to add a link to this topic in case they reply here

Many thanks for your reply. I scanned it again as you instructed, and no virus was found. I tried restoring it, but it appeared in the virus chest again as a new entry, so I have sent it into the Avast lab. Hopefully this will be resolved.

Thanks again.

when you restore a copy will remain in virus chest…just in case…you can delete this when all is okay
or do you mean it was detected again after restore?

I’m assuming it was detected and put in the virus chest again, as I still can’t find the programme and it still doesn’t work. This is the same after a restart as well.

OK… well you have sendt it to avast lab, so wait a few days and see if the detection is fixed

Just to update - it is now fixed.

Many thanks Pondus, and to the Avast! people who sorted it, if you’re reading this!
