I got a black screen

let me try and explane. a few nights ago is when quicktime on the desktop ask if i wanted a update it. i download some songs of a friend of mine witch was done last nightl. they are a band with jake hook as a singer and my friend. it was not till the next morning after the computer had been on all night. when I got up and I did a short time on the computer. I went a way about ten or 15 min. I walk back in the room and look at the computer and that is when i saw a black screen witch i was told that some times happen after doing a windows update but i never gave it permission to start a windows update it is all ways suppose ask 1st.

before i went to bed that night it had pop up on the scheen that there was a update let me just say it like this by startting off with my friends home pages.

http://www.myspace.com/jakehook
you can get alot of his song there or facebook witch is where i met jake from another friend. i only have a few of his songs he has a very pleasant voice to listen too. his songs are great too. i met jake from another friend on facebook. i listen mostly to 1950 1960 1970 1980 oldie but goodies. jake was giving me some of his downloads of music. then there was some about quicktime player that came with the computer when mike brought it home.

after i downloaded the some of jake’s songs and click ok so it could update quicktime player i went to bed and the next morning i did a short time on the computer. then I left it alone about ten or 15 min when i came back in the room and look at the computer saw a black screen with a - on the screen. i left it a lone for 10 or 15 more min. to see if it was going to do something and it did not. I then turn it off manally and waited about 5 mins. then I turn it back on. then at the botton of the screen I saw it had already done a window update witch i did not give it permission to do. i all ways look at what windows wants to update before i click ok to let it do its things. it was also suppose to reboot it self and it did not. i had to do it manully. i hope i explane it right.

here with a windows up date some times the screen that the screen does go black. i do not know if the black screen is because of the windows update or was it some different.

here is praying i worded every thing the way it should be. i no some one will tell me if i posted this right or wrong.

Sharon    ;D

A black screen is usually a hardware problem.

You could post a HijackThis! log just so we can check for obvious malware.

I don’t touch anything from MySpace as it is loaded with too much malware.

I will post a log right after i send this. i check for malwre on a reg. basis. i was clean for quite then about 2 or 3 scan back of both the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and the superantispyware it found 53 or 63.they got delete and it has been about a week and the computer has no malware on the computer. the computer had on malware when the black screen came up. next post will be only the hj log. after that i am headed for bed. i will check back 1st thing in the morning.

thanks Sharon

i just red again and it don 't make sense. what i was trying to say is for some time i was clean for some time then about 3 scan ago there was some malware but it got deiete and has been clean around a week. the computer was clean when the black screen came up. thank Sharon

Netzero seems to have a pretty crappy reputation, but I can’t see any obvious malware.

Does the screen just go completely black or is there a message?

If it just goes black, it could be your video card.

you mean to say i still have netzero on here. i quit using and unstall it. i am not sure how long ago that was. i use now att now. i will use there removal tool again.
the only thing i had on the black screen was one of these blinking -. I will let you know when i have downloaded the removal tool to try to get rid of all of netzero.

here is trouble already i found this and it said it would get rid of the rest of netzero http://www.exterminate-it.com/malpedia/remove-netzero after i downloaded it and did the scan. it said i had to pay to do the next step. all i wanted was to get the free removal of netzero. i will look more and try and make sure it is the removal that will do it for free. i have to do some thing, but well be back from time to time to check for reply.

Sharon

You do not have netzero as such, just registry entries for Netzero search assistants with Internet Explorer.
I really would not worry yourself.

i will try to fine and delete them any way. do you think it was entry of netzero that made the screen go black or was it the windows update that caused it. i am not sure why it did the windows update with out getting my permission. i never change any thing about windows update. i let it download what it says its needs. i just look at it each time before i let it install.

thanks Sharon

As micky77 said, no need to worry about NetZero if you uninstalled it.

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

yes I can. a few month ago when I was using netzero for a ISP.any time I hand to unstall netzero because it got croup. I had to unstall it in safe mode because it would not do it like it should. when I unstalled it i had to reboot in safe mode. and use the removal tool. it did not get rid of it. i sent a log here to avast. was told what to put check marks in. witch was not just netzero but AVG too. then i click it so i could delete all that had check marks. and i don’t know how many times i did that. the other steps that this forum walk me threw. i thing the netzero that i removed this morning was the e-mail advertisement bluelight mail sends me from time to time.
Sharon

is there some thing you want me to do in safe mode? 2 people say don’t worry. now I am confusied.
Sharon

If your computer works in Safe Mode, the black screen is probably a video driver problem, as described here:

http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-vista/76073-black-screen-after-windows-update.html

Try rolling back your driver or downloading and installing the appropriate driver.

my computer tell me it is working fine and all of my drivers are updated. the only thing that is not quite like it should me is the printer. some time back when i had to do a recovery manger i had to re-install the printer. because of where the printer has to be sit and the cord laid out… my husband has to hook it up use it and unhook it. because the way the cord is across the room you could trip over it. any how it did not quiet get all the way re- installed. i will do some reading and see what it says the computer needs to have so it can be-fully updated,
j am confused did you not say i should not worry about it that it was OK?
thanks Sharon
