I got a suspicious email from someone claiming to be WindowsLive.

Hi

I got a suspicious email from someone claiming to be WindowsLive and I have to give personal information.

Could be this a scam mail?

Thx and have a nice day.

yeah of course it’s a scam. Just report it to Microsoft. If you’re in Windows Live Mail it’s easy, go to safety settings and set as seen on the screenshots. then go back to that mail and click on delete and block. It will be reported automatically.

Of course it is a scam/attempt to harvest your logon details.

Do you really think that WindowsLive would be using an email address at sbcglobal.net, I don’t. I also doubt that that is the true sender or the location where the email will get sent.

Also do you really think if it were real that they would ask for the transmission of your security details by email, absolutely not.

You really need to tighten up your security as I wouldn’t even have opened that email as the Subject and from address would have started alarm bells ringing. The act of just opening an email can give them valuable information depending on how the email is constructed, opening it can inform them that the email has been received, e.g. it is a valid address and you can end up on more spam lists, etc.

Personally I never respond in any way and that includes bouncing blocked messages as that too could potentially give an indication that it is a fake bounce, just delete don’t respond.

Increase the spam filter sensitivity as that kind of thing really should get picked up and dumped in the spam folder or deleted.
