Hi

My daughter downloaded a program and it has badly infected the computer, i am working on another forum to try and fix it.

Just curious is okay to upgrade to version 4.8.1195 or wait to infection fixed or reinstall windows xp.

By the way Avast picked up nothing etc scanned with superantispyware, but scanned first with avast found nothing .

Same when the computer was infected other programs when i scanned found infections, avast found none

Which scan your using? Quick scan,Standard scan or Through scan?

Hi rassel

Used Through scan.

Good news for me, looks like the comp is well on the way to being fixed.
Have done 2 combofix, which has seem to have fixed the problem

ETC restore stopped working
task manager stopped working
getting warnings about being hi jacked
Other stuff that was not working properly
NOW all working again

Just waiting for my combofix logs and hijack logs to be checked out.

tomorrow is my cleanup and scan day, if any other scan picks up anything and “AVAST” does not i will repost.

Congrats and the way you clean your computer is same as me. When i was badly infected i run combofix and then scan for virus than i run hijackthis. But for me, combofix is the one which help me the most and i love this program. ;D

I believe combofix stores the files in a quarantine ?
If so take advantage and submit them to avast (if you haven’t deleted them) so they might benefit from the undetected files.

Send the sample to virus@avast.com zipped and password protected with the password in email body, a link to this topic might help and undetected malware in the subject.

Or you can also add the file to the User Files (File, Add) section of the avast chest where it can do no harm and send it from there (select the file, right click, email to Alwil Software). No need to zip and PW protect when the sample is sent from chest. A copy of the file/s will remain in the original location, so any further action you take can remove that.
