I use avast! free antivirus(version 5.1.889 ) and I want to know what FREE firewall works best with it.I don’t want to spend any money on commercial software, nor use Windows Firewall. How does Comodo Firewall(with no proactive protection) get along with avast!free antivirus?
My OS is Windows XP SP3(32-bit).
Additional security software used:
Spybot Search&Destroy
Malwarebytes’ Antimalware(the free version).
You can try to find an answer here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=54993.0
Avast! perfectly works with Comodo Firewall ProActive protection (I have It)
Spybot is compatible with Avast too and Malwarebytes as well.
So no problem man!
Get rid of spybot, it’s features and scanning capabilities are outdated and does conflict with avast on some system’s, comodo is to bloated nowdays try privatefirewall, outpost or online armor.
yeah i saw one video where avast 4 report a virus during spybot’s scan >:(
i do not use spybot too, but its good to find some hidded hijackers trojans etc…
I said I use the latest version of avast! free av(5.1.889).If I try to update it,it tells me that it is already up-to-date.If I click the button “OK”,it warns me that the virus definition database is outdated. Can I blame Spybot for this?Anyway,I didn’t notice any interference between Spybot and avast!.
I went to Control Panel>>Add/Remove Programs, selected avast! and clicked Change/Remove.So I repaired avast! from here.No use, however. The problem occured again the next day. What could be the cause? What could I do?Repair avast! everyday?!!!
I’ve already added avast! to the exceptions list in Windows Firewall.
I use SpyBot Search & Destroy without the resident TeaTimer, which may be why I have no problems with the combination. You can disable it before attempting a repair of Avast. http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=2827. Do this while logged into the Admin account that you are also attempting the repair. You may have to Right click, "Run as Admin…).
If SpyBot S&D is interfering with the Avast repair, this should stop that.
Spybot monitors the registry changes and should ask your permission to allow or deny the changes, but sometimes it forgets. So if it blocks the registry change that updates the VPS number then you will get this error. Try disabling teatimer and see if the symptoms remain
I’ve tried, but this didn’t work neither,so I shouldn’t blame Spybot(After the repair process finishes,is it normal to receive the message “The product was succesfully updated.” instead of “The product was succesfully repaired.”?This happened to me.).
No use for me trying to repair avast!.What else could I do to fix that annoying problem?
I did have a problem a few weeks back trying to remove some malware, but I couldn’t - further analysis showed that Spybot was reversing all the changes I tried to make to the system. In the end I uninstalled spybot totally and the fix worked. Was this a one off I do not know
Is uninstalling Spybot really the only solution? If I do it,I’ll miss that nifty program, but I bet it is better than being unable to keep avast! up-to-date.If there isn’t any other solution,I’ll remove Spybot from my computer
It is to do with the backups that spybot keeps - uninstall it totally - update Avast and then reinstall spybot
See if that works
Thanks. It’s OK now. I am not going to reinstall Spybot because I do not want to have problems again.I’ve had enough.I just hope the problem won’t occur again. If it does,I’ll know it wasn’t the fault of of Spybot…
Winpatrol is as good as or better than spybot for the functions that you need
+1
WinPatrol Free vs PLUS

This thing is really giving me headaches! >:(Spybot removed completely(and registry cleaned afterwards with TuneUp Utilities and Wise Registry Cleaner),repaired avast!,set Comodo Firewall(I’ve installed it,I just can’t trust Windows Firewall) to allow avast! to connect to the Internet, but avast! is still obstinate! That update problem isn’t gone!
If I don’t find the solution,I’ll have to replace avast! with a more reliable antivirus software…
Any other solution?Please,help me!
P.S.:Is this a well-known issue of avast!?
Problem related to update occured again, with Spybot already removed…
What could I do to fix this?
To me that sounds as though there was a glitch of some sort when the programme was first installed, although what I have no idea. I would recommend a full uninstall of Avast - then use ASWClear - then re-install
If the problem still exists then I would assume that there is a programme in your computer that is interfering in some way
