I have a rootkit infection, possibly others

I had a number of infections discovered by an Avast scan. I think one was identified as Sirefef-PL, another was a trojan located in services.exe, sorry I can’t be more specific as I don’t have those logs available.

I’m now just following the instructions from the ‘‘Logs to assist in cleaning’’ thread. Here is the output from Malwarebytes quick scan and I will follow ASAp with the other steps:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.70.0.1100

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Thanks for all your assistance Essexboy, I’ve attached the logs for ComboFix and the second run of OTL.

I can’t say anything definitive about the performance of my computer right now. I only knew about the infection because Avast! 8 alerted me continuously that it was detecting and blocking malware…it isn’t doing that anymore but then I only have an out-of-date AvastPro version after a system restore. I’m getting that fixed now.

I was hoping you would be able to tell me from the logs whether this has cleared the problems? How safe would I be to go ahead and use this system for emails, banking and online purchases? That is my main concern right now.

I would like to run one more programme to confirm that it has all gone

[*] Download RogueKiller and save it on your desktop.

NOTE: If using IE8 or better Smartscreen Filter will need to be disabled

[*]Quit all programs
[*] Start RogueKiller.exe.
[*] Wait until Prescan has finished …
[*] Click on Scan

[*]Wait for the end of the scan.
[*] The report has been created on the desktop.
[*] Click on the Delete button.

The RogueKiller program experienced a problem in the ‘delete’ phase, Windows closed it down. I ran it again from the ‘scan’ step onward and there weren’t any further issues. The first attached log is the first scan result and the second is the scan result from after the program failing, the third is the ‘delete’ log and the fourth is the ‘fix shortcut log’.

Did I make a mistake by running that RogueKiller program again after it failed?

OK I just wanted to double check on the services file as combofix did not replace it or call it infected

How is the computer now ?

Everything seems fine. If there are no other tests to be performed can I assume that my system is safe to use? Thanks for your help.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
