I have been running Avast Free for 2 years and love it. However, I got a virus from a download by another user. I used Malwarebytes to kill it. Freeze.com was in the Registry.
Well no Anti Virus is 100% effective, 100% of the time.
That’s why a “layered security profile” is advised.
Avast works well with MBam as well as WinPatrol and MBAE just to mention a possible profile
These four security programs working together can serve to increase protection, thus not leaving the responsibility to only one security program.

The registry is just that a registry - it isn’t an executable file as such.
Only if the supporting files are on your hard disk would that registry entry be able to run the file and is unlikely otherwise that too would have been alerted on.
As mentioned the only real way to check anything out is by posting the MBAM log.
