I purchased Avast Internet Security back in Sept. 2012, I’ve had no trouble with it til today, I had to do a restore on my PC, and now my Avast is inactive! there’s a red X on the avast symbol and it won’t respond at all! I’ve tried to uninstall it and reinstall, but it won’t allow that either! my lic. says I’m still valid til Sept of 2013, but the lic. bar says my subscription is used up. I don’t know what to do to get it working again I’m paying for another subscription until this is used up, and IF I can’t get this matter resolved, I’ll be seeking an antivirus program from other sources!
System Restore can have unexpected consequences, one being the avast self-defence module doesn’t like it as it may be trying to change avast files, this may end up corrupting avast. Best advice before using system restore is disable the avast self-defence module.
You may need to do a ‘clean’ reinstall avast Internet Security. You don’t say what errors you get when trying to uninstall or reinstall it, but a clean reinstall is likely to be the best option.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).
Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can’t do that (as appears to be the case) start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 7.x if previously installed and then for 8.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
