I have to uninstall Avast

It is just a fact AVAST and windows 8.1 do not work together. Internet connection are slow and everything else is also very very slow.

I have uninstalled it and use defender instead, and my pc is now responsive. Shame I have paid 3 years of license .

best regards

Jose

Is it a new computer?
Did it come with a preinstalled AV from factory?
Did you remove any previous used or factory installed AV before installing avast?

There will be a new release of avast this month or next month.
I would not give up on avast yet.
It could very well be that the “slowdown” problems are solved in that version.

And since you are using Windows 8.1 have you disabled NG and checked to see if it still was/is slow?

jose1234 i use windows 8.1 with avast and no problem here what so ever. But have you followed the instructions from eddy?

2 days without Avast using Defender and no problem at all my PC has not been responsive once ! I do not think Avast and windows 8.1 are compatible.

@Eddy: Sorry Eddy I have no idea what you mean by disabling NG?

Thanks
Jose

avast works fine on windows 8.1.

To disable/remove NG “virtualisation technology” click to uninstall Avast - then choose “change” and untick the NG box then accept and reboot the system.

This worked very good for me. For some reason, around 13:30 CET my CPU fans just starting going haywire out of nowhere. I was surfing the web an all of the sudden 5100 RPM on the CPU fan. Checked my task manager and saw that Avast Service was taking 98% CPU and I was like WTF! No Scan going on, no update… So I tried this and now everything is quiet again and Avast! Service is back to 0% CPU usage…

Anyone know the reason for this?

It takes a while to set up the virtual drive if you’re using the NG technology. Once it’s setup, it’s impact is fairly insignificant.
In your case, you disabled it so there is no impact at all. It also means that what ever benefit you could have received from NG isn’t available to you.

Jose, Do NOT give up on Avast…you paid 3 year license…it is a terrific A/V…you just have to be diligent and look on this Forum to not install some of the items not totally ironed out.
NG Summary: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=154857.msg1125734#msg1125734
As mentioned just uninstall NG…it’s a PIG (said with love)…frankly IMHO not worth the problems (there are others, not just performance) it causes in current state…but I’m sure they are working on it.

Also, disable HTTPS scanning within Settings of Avast…another function/feature that the code IMHO is still in BETA mode.
These two items will change your CPU & Internet performance dramatically.

 Hopefully next code release of 2015 will stabilize these functions…we’ll see.
