I unistaled the norton AV it came with and download avast to the comp. it is a vista 32 bit service pack 2 i have checked all the connections: wireless, ethernet and none of them work with avast, i uninstalled avast and they work fine so is avast the one that is causing the problem, i tried to allow everything ther fire wall setting and also windows defender but nothing still the same thing, does any one have any suggestionse???
Sorry but, this isn’t always the case as when programs are in conflict, remove one and no conflict, so we have to dig deeper. As a temporary measure you could have terminated the Web Shield as this is what is likely to have been blocked or in conflict.

Norton is notorious for the remnants left behind even after an uninstall, the forums are littered with the debris of NAV topics.
The NAV 2003 removal tool can be downloaded here: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/consumer/Rnav2003.exe
A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Having done that reboot and reinstall avast (if you haven’t done so) perhaps you should do that first before going on-line totally unprotected to get the Norton Removal Tool…
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?
If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.
I have installed Windows firewall (as fas as i knowis the only one i see, or that comes with the comp.), now i tired to allow Avast thru it, but i can not make ashWebSv.exe to go thru, could this also be because windows defender is also bloking it, na dif this is the case, how do i make windows firewall and defender to let thru/ let it work??? i can’t find the way to do it, thank you (also for the reply)
Me i use Avast!,Malwarebytes,Windows Firewall of Vista like your,Windows Defender and they didnt block anything that i want or they ask me something like my Firewall when i got a new game. I also got UAC and Automatic Windows Update for Windows and Microsoft On. No problem at all you should check how you uninstall your current anti virus and do a repair or reinstall avast! with control panel and removal tool. So all should be fine. That what i did do when i was having Norton on my pc and its did removed all fine.
The firewall in this case is unlikely to be blocking so as mentioned before it is likely to be remnants of Norton, so you need to run that tool I gave the link for.
i did run the tool you gave me, which is great by the by the way, but it did not help, i still can connect to the internet, so what i did is un installed avast turned off windows defender and instal avast again and that is not working either, out of ideas.
Windows Defender should have nothing related with connection.
Neither avast. It’s a problem of firewall and not of the antivirus.
Norton is messing something here
I would suggest a clean avast install after running the Norton Removal tool.
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall. Ensure that you scroll down and select the avast direct download link for the English version and not Cnet as that is for an on-line installation (not what you want to do). - Direct download for avast Home, English version, http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.
Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
