i lost my files

I was passing the Avast Antivirus on my pendrive. Virus appeared and gave the key “Delete”. Message appears again and again. Again and again I gave the key “Delete”. Seeing that did not work I gave the key “Delete All” and this action deleted all files in the pendrive. How do I recover my files Pendriver? >:(

Hello luis senior,

I have no such experience yet, but maybe you can try to recover data with Recuva; freeware from Piriform?

Or DiskDigger, or Easeus,

As mentioned - Recuva Deleted File Recovery application - http://www.recuva.com/, also see Builds, http://www.recuva.com/download/builds as the Portable version would help as it doesn’t have to be installed and the slim version if you don’t like toolbars.

Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.

Generally, deletion within avast is unrecoverable. So, the better is send files to Chest.

not the first time someone posts saying he clicked on delete, and then wonders why it’s deleted ::slight_smile: … yeah, recovery software is the only option. I don’t know if avast wipes or marks just as deleted, recuva can help

Test it with eicar.com and you’ll see if you can recover anything with Recuva after avast deletion…
But no, avast does not wipe (fill with 0). But it does not just delete (move to recycle bin).

I don’t believe it does any special delete (wipe) just the normal one (though you can test as Tech suggested). Certainly in some posts Vlk has mentioned using file recovery tools if you have deleted, but you must use it before what has been allocated as free space is overwritten. So I guess with that comment it is just removing the file name from the table and that just allows the free space to be used later.

@ Tech: if it’s directly deleted, ie not moved first to the recycle bin, then Recuva can get it back. It’s a normal deleting, nothing special (= just marked as free space for Windows, no big deal to recover as long as it hasn’t been overwritten too many times).

edit: you posted while I was writing david… so yeah that’s what I meant.

I can’t test.
avast is not running in my computer anymore.

Umm…how did this come about. Tech??

I believe he explained that in another topic, problems getting the AIS beta installed I think.

The actual AIS has memory leak and freezes my computer. I can’t work… just let one hour the computer and it freezes…
