i miss my icon !

3 months ago i moved and have been disconnected , :o
until yesterday, ;D

while i was offline i stopped the res. scanner, shutting off the icon.
i’ve updated everything yet i can’t seem to get my icon to return . . ???

please help

avast! icon missing - As a temporary measure until this is resolved you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut). You will need to run this after each boot until the problem is resolved.

What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?

Check the option in the Appearance tab of Program Settings. Or Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder.

all i run is avast, ccleaner and keep up with windows bulletins, seems to keep me free and clear.
btw , i added ashdisp to startup and it’s fine

You can enhance your overall protection by adding programs that compliment avast, these work well with avast without conflict.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run periodically.

  1. Ewido, a.k.a. avg anti-spyware If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
  2. Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
  3. Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.

Did you discover which program deleted the entry of avast at the first time?
Generally, there is an ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
