I need help badly

I have windows 2000 profesional edition

I installed the latest version of avast, ran it and it said I had a trojan running in memory.

1/28/2004 2:43:58 AM 1075279438 LALO\Cort Lens 1996 Sign of “Win32:Trojan-gen. {UPX!}” has been found in “c:\winnt\system32\msgldrv.exe” file.

I deleted this file.

It said it would be best to do a reboot with a scheduled scan and I did that. It found 2 files which I deleted they where

File C:\WINNT\system32\msvbvm06.dll is infected by Win32:Trojan-gen. {Other} - Deleted
File C:\WINNT\system32\ldrmsvbvm06.dll is infected by Win32:Trojan-gen. {Other} - Deleted

The problem I now have is monumental, I can not run any .exe files, besides explorer.exe, I am not able to open up the program again or any other. I get this error “Cannot find the file (Or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required librarys are availible.”

I get the error with every program I try to run and I have no idea what to do.

It seems that the exe file you have deleted was associated to starting executables…
You can try to download our avast! Virus Cleaner and start it “somehow” - e.g. rename it to .com, .bat, .cmd, .scr… maybe it will be possible to start with one of these extensions. When it’s started, it will detect corrupted associations and offers to repair them.

Or even better (thanks Vlk for the hint ;D) - download the avast! Virus Cleaner, rename (copy) it to c:\winnt\system32\msgldrv.exe and try to start it.

Its a great idea however some developments have happened, mianly my firewall is blocking IE from accessing the internet and now I am on my old computer, its cdr is busted and I can only pray its floppy drive works.

The cdr was busted, the floppy drive didn’t work, but the renaming of the .exe files did work, however the main program didin’t work. I was able to uninstall the firewall download that little program and rename it to a .bat and now everything is back to normal, almost =). Thanks.
