I NEED HELP PLEASE

My computer is old. I recently downloaded Safari browser on my computer because it runs so much faster and better than windows, firefox, or opera.

However, Avast is unable to scan any of my files. None. How do I fix this? Does this mean my computer is not protected? Or does this mean that some virus or worm got in and disabled Avast?

is avast deactivated? or how did you notice that avast doesn’t scan your files?

Is your OS old too e.g. win9x or winME ?

Do you mean avast is unable to scan your browser activity or those on your Hard Disk and what type of scan were you doing ?

As you can see we a need more explanation of the problem, what were you doing, what happened, any errors displayed, etc. ?

When I do a computer scan, it will go through the entire scan, but then the reports says unable to scan and leaves me a long list.

How do i check to see if it is deactivated?

When I open it up it will have a memory scan. And I do see updates notification while using Safari. But I am stumped as to why the after-scan report says unable to scan and nothing else.

As you can see…I am not computer savvy.

That long list is most certainly not ‘all your files’

See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=35347.msg297170#msg297170 this topic for more information on why files can’t be scanned.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.

So we need come common examples of what files and locations that can’t be scanned.

I doubt avast is disabled or it wouldn’t have even done the memory scan before the on-demand scan.

What avast processes are running in Task Manager, they begin with ash or asw, see image ?
