I also went ahead and downloaded otl. And did the 1st step just to get the 1st set of logs
Appears like you are running two antivirus programs. AVG and CA. Two antivirus programs will conflict with each other and cause serious problems. I would uninstall both using the developers uninstall tool and reinstall the one antivirus program that you wish to use.
Why not use Avast! to protect your computer???
And I shouldnt have any problems after I do that?
Most anyone on any security forum will tell you that running two or more antivirus programs will cause problems.
It is a known problem that running two antivirus programs will conflict causing serious problems.
I would also run Malwarebytes Free to check to see if you have any malware on your computer. Make sure that you fully update Malwarebytes before running a full scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/
You also might want to update Internet Explorer 7 to version 8.
Yeah, I am also getting win32 crashes and popus so im gonna check for malware
I think that you will find that uninstalling the existing antivirus programs (using the developers uninstall tool) and reinstalling just one antivirus program will work wonders. I have tried disabling (without properly uninstalling)other antivirus programs before and installing a new antivirus to test. It completely locked my system up. Please keep us posted.
Hopefully Malwarebytes will find any problems with malware.
So I deleted my other virus protection program so im currently running avg. But… Im still having the same problem. Win 32 crashes. Redirects. intructions at “” referenced at “”. All that good stuff. Im not quite sure what to do now. Do i have to just reinstall windows?
You can not run AVG and avast! at the same time.
What is your operating System and Service Pack level ???
I’m not running avast. My os is windows xp professional, service pack 3
@ mykidchloe,
Did you reboot your machine after uninstalling CA antivirus?
You only posted part of your OTL log…there should be 2 logs and I see problems and understand why your machine is crashing.
Please delete OTL on your machine and download a fresh file and re-do it again posting the 2 logs as an attachment. Please refer to this: Check the information on the first post of this thread under Virus/Worms for you to check your machine for malware: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0. Download the OTL log from there and attach the 2 OTL logs in your next post.
Update MBAM and attach or cut and paste your log:
Check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).
· Download free http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button) for an on-demand scanner.
· Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
· After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
· Under Settings:
o General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o Scanner Settings: Check all boxes
o Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
· Once the program has loaded, select “Perform FULL Scan”, then click Scan.
· The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
· When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
· Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found. You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
· The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
· Copy & Paste or attach the entire report in your next reply.
I am going to refer you to our Certified Malware expert, named Essexboy after you post your OTL logs and MBAM logs. He will also review your logs and give you further instructions, however he comes on the forum late UK time. He will respond to you in this thread, so remember to check this thread daily. I will continue to provide assistance in the meantime, then remain in the background while he works with you.
IMPORTANT: If you are on a home network, disconnect the affected machine from the network. Do not share a USB/flash drive with this affected machine. Do not use this machine unless Essexboy instructs you do to malware removal instructions; use a different machine to check email, sync your phone (your phone can also get malware), etc.
Please do not make any further changes to your machine after you have provided the logs.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
You need to go to AVG Forum:
http://forums.avg.com/ca-en/avg-free-forum
Lets see how helpful they are with your situation.
I did everything you told me to. But the “extras” log didnt come up. Neither was it located where the other file is. I even rescanned and it still didnt come up. So I dont know…
But… here are the logs
OTL
And here is the “extra” log from last time is right here. Im not sure if it will help but here you go.
Thank you for posting your logs. I am going to make a suggestion to you. It appears that you do have problems with your machine. Since av_g has not provided you with adequate antivirus protection, we can remove your malware here on the forum and I can refer you to our Certified Malware expert. But you should think if you really want to stay with av_g or change to Avast, which has several versions (Free, Pro, AIS). Here is a comparison chart of the products: http://www.avast.com/comparison-chart. You can also layer your AV protect with other on-demand scanners like MBAM, which you have just downloaded and we can give you helpful tips to avoid infections in the future. Soon, Avast will be releasing a new version and there will be several upgrades from what is listed in the link I just gave you (even for the Free version).
How do you feel about changing to Avast? The reason I ask is because I will need to assist you with your uninstall of your current AV prior to malware removal.
In the meantime, if you are on a home network, disconnect the affected machine from the network. Do not share a USB/flash drive with this affected machine. Do not use this machine unless absolutely necessary because malware will spread (use a different machine if possible to check email, sync your phone, etc.).
Please do not make any further changes to your machine now that you have provided the logs.
Let me know if you have any questions and I will be happy to assist you. Thank you.
Cool. Thanks guys. And whatever I need to do to stay protected I will. So if avast is what I need then that’s what I will get.
I am going to refer you to our Certified Malware expert, named Essexboy. He will also review your logs and give you further instructions, however he comes on the forum late UK time. He will respond to you in this thread, so remember to check this thread daily.
You will need to uninstall av_g prior to installing Avast, however I want you to wait for Essexboy to review your logs and contact you first prior to you uninstalling you current AV and installing Avast.
This is the av_g uninstaller tool: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools, then reboot.
This is how to download and install Avast:
- Save a copy of newest version of Avast (5.0.677) for the version you need and save it to your HDD:
Free – http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free_eng.exe
Pro – http://www.avast.com/pro-antivirus#tab4
AIS – http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe - Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
- Reboot.
- Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
- Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for Free, Pro, or AIS.
Free – http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php - Update the Avast definitions.
I will continue to provide assistance in the meantime until Essexboy works with you, then remain in the background while he works with you. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
Hi there I see you tried to run combofix, unfortunately AVG has a big hate on for it and kills bits of the programme. But, it stops it half thorugh and may cause damage to your system, hence sUBs has stopped combofix from running if AVG is detected
So if you are going to change to Avast then once AVG is uninstalled we can then run CF, as I believe you may have the TDL3 rootkit. If you are going to remain with AVG then you will need to uninstall it until I give the all clear
Could you let me know how you want to proceed please
As soon as I gain access to my computer again I will proceed in removing avg from my computer. So tonight in like 6 hours. Its when I get off work.
OK then first set of destructions - as I will be in bed by then ;D
Delete the copy of Combofix from your desktop as it may be corrupted
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
[*]Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]As part of it’s process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it’s strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
[*]Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it’s malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
