The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Mircosoft Windows applications. Choose ‘Close’ to terminate the application.”…and i can’t open it…now i can’t have updated definitions… >:( :-\ and also my regular Live update doesn’t work thats y i need to do it maually…and the worst part is…i…uninstalled avast after i scanned…and now i’m wondering if theres lik a thing that restore wat i deleted…or does anyone have a way to help me out?
Download and run this file to overwrite the corrupted or missing AUTOEXEC.NT file with a new one. The file to download is called XP_FIX.EXE (it’s second from the top on this page: http://www.visualtour.com/downloads/default.asp
Don’t have two AV programs installed at the same time - a definite NO NO!
Also, the free version of Avast is at least as good as the Norton AV that you have to pay for – and it uses less system resources, and it’s less prone to problems.
So you could cure the LiveUpdate problem by ditching Norton AV altogether (uninstall LiveUpdate too afterwards) and switching to Avast Home Edition. You won’t be able to uninstall LiveUpdate until all Norton products are uninstalled, so if you have Norton Firewall ditch that aswell and get the free ZoneAlarm http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp or Sygate Firewall http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm
Both as good as Norton without the cost or the bloat.
hey it worked…thank you very much
Now all you need to do is get rid of Norton ;D
LOL i really want to…but…the comp is the “family” comp…so yea…-_-
Yes but don’t forget NAV let you down in the first place, costs you money and if for non-commercial use you would qualify for the Home version free. There are many ex NAV users who are now happy avast users. Personally I believe avast is better, uses less resources and gives better overall protection.
It takes alot of time on your computer to remove Norton but I’ll tell you, it can be done. I understand that you should keep Norton on your computer. Alot of people I spoke to need to keep Norton but don’t worry. ;D
lol yea…but i’m lik savin up money…to buy my new comp…so wen i get my new comp i’ll stop usin NAV so yea…X]
When you get a new computer, it’s recommend you try a free antivirus first to save all that time and money. Avast! Home Edition is proven to be quite wonderful for most of us here. If you really love avast! feel free to buy the professional edition. For now stick with Norton for a while.
yea…X]
but first i needa save up…-_- ;D
