I NEED SERIOUS HELP PLEASE!

I was reading some of the articles that Bob3160 writes. I find some of them interesting. Well I never realized that my Avast & my Windows Defender didn’t behave together in other words…my Avast wasn’t my AV my WD was so he showed how to uninstall WD which I did. So now my PC is rid of Windows Defender and my sole AV is now Avast and I’m happy. But in another forum that I was one day they were talking about IE10 and I knew nothing about it. And I typed it in and sure enough my IE was IE10 and now I knew why my PC was having so many problems. So I followed those directions to uninstall IE10 and it took me right back to IE9 which it did…but for some reason I wanted to go back to IE8 so I followed those instructions one more time and this time I have no clue what happened because now I have no IE on my PC at all. We’ve looked everywhere it says I have it because I’ve tried to reinstall it and it tells me I already have it on my PC…only I can’t find it anywhere.

My big problem right now is…with me not having IE my Avast won’t update and as of right now it’s in a critical state. I need help in getting my Avast back up and running and protecting me until I can figure out all this IE stuff. Can anyone please help me here or tell me where I should be posting this? I really do appreciate any help at all.

Does anyone know how I can move this to a different forum?

Thanks
DoeZ

Provide some more information please.
What os?
What version of Avast?
What is telling you avast is not working anymore?
Have you tried Windows Update to get IE back/working again?

Hi Eddy…

Thanks for replying.

As for OS…I believe that would be Windows7 Home Premium

As for the version of Avast…I couldn’t find that…I saw 2 items and wasn’t sure if that was what you needed the program and the engine & virus definition but something told me that was wrong.

As for what is telling me that Avast is not working? The fact that I uninstalled my Windows Defender because that was the only way Avast would be my sole AV…and because I keep getting these error messages that tell me my Avast is in a Critical state and I’ve attached a pix also.

As for trying to get back my IE…I’ve been trying to work on everything and am working with Microsoft Internet Explorer as we speak…and IE isn’t showing up anywhere but there are files somewhere that we just can’t find yet. So something is missing. And if all fails my daughter just installed a fresh Windows7 on her laptop and she’ll have to do that to mine as well. I’ll just have to back everything up before.

My main concern right now is getting my Avast to work so I’m protected again. Can you help me with this?

Thanks
DoeZ

What happens if you right click the avast icon (near the clock) and choose update engine & definitions ?

That message doesn’t say that avast is not working, it is saying you are using a old version.

It’s not highlighted. I can’t click it.

Try a repair of avast.
Control panel > software > avast > add/remove > choose repair
if that doesn’t solve it, follow the instructions on THIS WEBSITE

Well I thought the repair worked at first because when I right clicked the icon on my tray and clicked update it was now highlighted and so I clicked that and it started to update…then it stopped and said it couldn’t connect to server.

So with uninstalling this in safemode what is this going to do?

Ok uninstalled thru safemode I now have no Avast at all :frowning:

Just download and install the latest version from the avast website or get the 2014 RC2 from HERE

What’s the 2014 RC2? And because I still don’t have IE with this clean install will it work without the IE?

Avast 2014 RC 2 is the Second Release candidate of the next Avast generation.

Ok…but will it work without IE?

Yes, i think so.

It will work with all popular browsers

So Internet Explorer(Which i cannot recommend), Firefox and Chrome.

I am using Chrome at the moment.

Ok…Thanks I’ll give it a try and let you how it works…

Also works with Opera

Ok it’s installed and all set up and looked in my control panel to see if I’m protected and it says I’m good to go! Thanks so very much for all your help with this. I feel so much better now knowing that I have my Avast back. Now to do a complete scan to see if any little pests got in these pasts 2 weeks. Thanks so very much again I sincerely appreciate all your help.
