Ok well i have no idea what is happening to my computer but i believe it is a worm, my comp will shut itself down whenever i go on certain things such as runescape and halo, it also doesnt allow me to complete a full system scan even in safe mode,as my computer shuts itself down half way through , my comp only seems to shut itsefl down when i go on any scanning stuff or and internet related games , does anyone know what the name of this virus/worm so i may at least try to remove thanks for anyone reading this…

It will be good to know which is your operational system, firewall, run a boot time scanning and if you’re not clean then post the name/path of the infected file…

I am running window Xp and i use zonealarm as my firewall , my windows updates are all up to date as well , and exaclty what is boot time scaning ?

As stated in the help:

Schedule boot time scan. Schedules the virus scanning before the operating system starts.

sorry to sound like a Newb but i really am, exaclty how would i go about runnning a boot time scanning?

Right click the avast icon and select ‘Start avast Antivirus’ from the menu select Schedule Boot-time scan…, see image.

I suggest you spend some time reading the help/manual and make yourself familiar with the options/settings Avast is offering the user.

Ok well I read the manual and then i ran a boot- time scan but my computer still shut down during the middle of the scan this is leading me to believe it may be a problem with my CPU or motherboard does anyone else think so?

Did you run a scandisk?
Do you have bad clusters or any other problem in your HDD?

yup i just ran scandisk and nothing seemed to be wrong i still cant figure out what it could be…

Is it an AMD CPU ? I’ve had 2 computers shutdown kind of like that and they were just overheating. I put new thermal grease between cpu and fan and blew them out with air which fixed them. just my 2 cents
