I have had the most horrendous luck with antivirus programs, and have come to feel that they probably cause me more headache than than any virus I should ever encounter.
I consider myself fortunate that I have never had a virus on my computer(s) so I only occasionally download an antivirus program to check and make sure… maybe once every 6 months or so.
A coworker had been talking about all the viruses running rampant on the net lately, so I decided to go ahead and download the latest and greatest free offering on the net.
Avast! got decent reviews so I decided to give it a whirl.
No viruses detected.
Great.
So I go to remove the program… no uninstaller, I go to add remove programs and it tells me that it cant find a file or something, so I go to manually delete the folder off my hardrive… cant because .dll’s are running.
I boot my computer in safemode, still cant remove it.
Open up msconfig and try to disable services etc…
still cant get rid of it.
When I was talking about horrendous luck with anti-virus programs this is what im talking about, once you install it you cant get rid of them.
I’m a PC Gamer and run a really clean system, unless its something I will be using it never loads up, seeing as my computer is secure enough that I seem to be immune to viruses, having an antivirus program in my face everytime the computer starts up is annoying.
I’m close to doing a full system restore and start from a clean slate… but spending the next 8hrs downloading all my game updates is not something I really wish to do.
Sounds to me you don’t know much about computers and security (no offense) Unfortunatly there are many people who try to do damage to anotherones computer/data. Every day aproximatly 15 new virusses/variants come out. Therefor having a decent Anti Virus program like Avast installed is very much recommended. This goes also for the use of a firewall. I strongly advise against removing Avast. I suggest you get it properly setup instead. But if you incist to remove it try it this way:
Normally you can easily remove Avast from the add/remove programs section in control panel. If it is not there, most likely something went wrong during the installation or there is something wrong with your operating system. Try to install Avast again and then try to remove it.

That’s not true. You can easely remove them if you know how. Usualy Add/Remove works great… if it doesn’t help for some strange reason, there are some files provided by programmers of anti-virus software that will do the job.

Secure enough ? What’s that mean ? No one is secure enough… and no one is imune to viruses. Antivirus in your face - You just have to know how to set anti-virus properly and you’ll never see avast!'s splash screen again…
