I would greatly appreciated if someone could help me.
When I try to install a new program I get this message:
Windows cannot access the specified device path or file you may not have appropriate permissions
however when I turn my !avast shields off the problem goes away. This did not happen before, but I might have and idea as what could have caused it.The problem first occurred after I did a boot-time scan.
Have no real idea but worth looking into the Virus Chest and see what may have been placed there from the Boot Scan. During the boot scan did anything get Quarantined and/or did you choose to delete anything it found ? I only ask since there have been several posts lately on boot time scan issues.
Thank you for your response and I did what you said and had a look at the virus chest but I can’t identify any important system files(at least from what I can tell) most of them are just ad-ware and trojans however I do have the settings to the scan if that helps anything
The scan was set to “fix automatically” for all threats
Areas scanned were:All harddisks,Auto-start programs,System drive.
Heuristics sensitivity was high
Scan for PUPs and unpack archive files were checked and the scan was scheduled for the night, when I woke up it had finished
Thank you once again
The issue I see is that you did a Boot Scan with auto fix with high Heuristics…meaning something important was quarantined or worse deleted. This is only a “guess”…but some avenues to proceed.
You can post pic of your Virus Chest and let the Experts here see if what is listed is truly adware, etc…if Avast put something there as a False Positive of course they are going to list is as a PUP or Virus, etc. Make sure to show the file name & path.
Other option is to do a full clean un & re-install of Avast…see my signature on How-To.
However, since this will delete the Virus Chest you should not do this yet until Experts say to.
